Here's the gist for thioridazine (Mellaril). Part of how this medicine works includes some anticholinergic activity, meaning it dials down a brain and body messenger called acetylcholine. Poria mushroom, at least in animal studies, may nudge acetylcholine levels back up. In theory, that could push against thioridazine's anticholinergic side, slightly softening some of its effects.

I want to be honest with you, though: this is purely theoretical and has never been shown in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. The bigger concern with thioridazine is heart rhythm, not poria. Still, since you're on a closely-monitored antipsychotic, please run any new supplement past your pharmacist or doctor before starting it.

Poria mushroom (Fu Ling) is a fungus long used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, mainly as a mild diuretic and digestive and calming aid. What Is Thioridazine Used For?

Thioridazine hydrochloride tablets are used to manage schizophrenia in people who have not responded well enough to other antipsychotic drugs.

It is meant for people who tried other antipsychotics that either did not work well enough or caused side effects that were too hard to tolerate. The label strongly recommends at least two trials of different antipsychotics first.
