Flecainide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Quercetin interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP2D6 substrates.

In vitro research show that quercetin inhibits CYP2D6. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Flecainide (Tambocor): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear this medicine out of your body. In test tube studies, quercetin seems to slow that enzyme down. If that were to happen in real life, flecainide could build up higher than expected, and since it's a heart rhythm drug with a narrow safety window, even small increases matter. Higher levels could mean more dizziness, blurred vision, or in some cases a worsening of the very rhythm problems it's meant to control.

The important part: this is only lab evidence and has not been shown in actual people. Everyday food amounts of quercetin are very unlikely to cause trouble. Still, before starting a high-dose supplement, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.

While early research is interesting for allergies, blood pressure, and inflammation, strong human evidence is limited for most uses. About Flecainide

What Is Flecainide Used For?

Brand name: Tambocor

Flecainide Acetate tablets are used to prevent episodes of certain abnormal heart rhythms. In patients without structural heart disease, it is approved to prevent paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT — episodes of rapid heart rate starting above the ventricles) and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation/flutter (PAF — intermittent episodes of irregular, rapid heart rhythm in the upper chambers), when these cause disabling symptoms.

Flecainide Acetate tablets are also used to prevent life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias — dangerous rapid rhythms starting in the lower chambers of the heart, such as sustained ventricular tachycardia. It is not recommended for less serious ventricular arrhythmias, for patients with a recent heart attack, or for chronic (ongoing, persistent) atrial fibrillation.
