Quercetin + Trimipramine
Trimipramine brand names: Surmontil, Trimip, Rhotrimine, Tripramine, Trimp.
Quercetin has a moderate interaction with Trimipramine. Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP2C9 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Trimipramine
Trimipramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Quercetin interacts with.
A small clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that taking quercetin 500 mg twice daily for 10 days prior to taking diclofenac, a CYP2C9 substrate, increases diclofenac plasma levels by 75% and prolongs the half-life by 32.5%. Animal research also shows that pretreatment with quercetin increases plasma levels and prolongs the half-life of losartan (Cozaar), a substrate of CYP2C9. Furthermore, laboratory research shows that quercetin inhibits CYP2C9.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: quercetin in concentrated supplement doses may slow down one of the liver enzymes (called CYP2C9) that helps clear trimipramine from your body. If that enzyme works more slowly, the drug can build up a bit higher than expected. Trimipramine is an active medication (not a prodrug), so higher levels usually mean stronger effects and a greater chance of side effects like drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dizziness on standing, or a faster heartbeat.
I'll be honest, this is mostly theoretical and based on studies with other drugs, not trimipramine itself. Eating quercetin-rich foods is very unlikely to matter. Still, since tricyclic antidepressants can be sensitive to changes, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting a high-dose supplement.

Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Trimipramine page
“If you take trimipramine (Surmontil), a tricyclic antidepressant, read this list carefully. Nine of the 139 supplements and herbs on file are rated major, and most touch the heart: several, grapefruit among them, can stretch the QT interval, the heart's electrical reset time, and raise the risk of a dangerous rhythm.”

About Quercetin
What is Quercetin?
- Seasonal allergies
- Antioxidant support
- Heart and blood pressure health
- Anti-inflammatory support
- Immune support
- Exercise recovery
Quercetin is a plant flavonoid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties found in many common foods and sold as a supplement. While early research is interesting for allergies, blood pressure, and inflammation, strong human evidence is limited for most uses. It is generally well tolerated in food amounts, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking high-dose supplements.
About Trimipramine
What Is Trimipramine Used For?
Brand names: Surmontil, Trimip, Rhotrimine, Tripramine, Trimp
Trimipramine capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms of depression. Endogenous depression — depression that arises from within, rather than from an obvious outside cause — is more likely to respond to treatment than other types.
In clinical studies, trimipramine worked as well as imipramine in hospitalized patients with depression, and was comparable to amitriptyline in less severely depressed outpatients.

Trimipramine Is Linked to Lower Levels of 3 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Trimipramine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Quercetin — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
