Quercetin + Maprotiline
Maprotiline brand name: Ludiomil.
Quercetin has a moderate interaction with Maprotiline. Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP2D6 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Maprotiline
Maprotiline falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Quercetin interacts with.
In vitro research show that quercetin inhibits CYP2D6. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with maprotiline (Ludiomil) and quercetin. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to break maprotiline down and clear it out. In lab studies, quercetin appears to slow that enzyme. If that happened in real life, maprotiline could build up a bit and its effects, plus side effects like drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, or a faster heartbeat, might become more noticeable.
The important part: this has only been seen in test tubes, not in people, so it's theoretical and far from certain. Food amounts of quercetin (apples, onions, berries) are very unlikely to matter. Before starting a concentrated quercetin supplement, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.
- DAnecdotal evidence.

This page covers Quercetin only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Maprotiline page lists 116 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Lithium (major), 1,3-dmaa (moderate), 5-htp (moderate) and Acacia Rigidula (moderate).
By severity: 2 major · 90 moderate · 24 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Maprotiline page
“The riskiest pairing on this page belongs to lithium. Taken alongside a serotonergic antidepressant like maprotiline (Ludiomil), it can both mask and raise the odds of serotonin syndrome, a dangerous buildup of serotonin activity, and it earns one of the list's two major ratings for that reason.”

About Quercetin
What is Quercetin?
- Seasonal allergies
- Antioxidant support
- Heart and blood pressure health
- Anti-inflammatory support
- Immune support
- Exercise recovery
Quercetin is a plant flavonoid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties found in many common foods and sold as a supplement. While early research is interesting for allergies, blood pressure, and inflammation, strong human evidence is limited for most uses. It is generally well tolerated in food amounts, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking high-dose supplements.

Maprotiline Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Maprotiline as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Quercetin — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
