Why this applies to Mometasone

Mometasone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Resveratrol interacts with.

Theoretically, resveratrol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that resveratrol can inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, clinical research shows that taking resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks does not necessitate dose adjustments to medications metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here's the gist for you. The body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down mometasone, and in lab studies resveratrol can slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, that could let more mometasone hang around, which might mean a little more steroid effect.

In real life, though, this is very unlikely to cause you trouble. The skin creams (Elocon) and the inhaler (Asmanex) deliver tiny amounts that act mostly where they're applied, so very little reaches your bloodstream. On top of that, human research found that even 3000 mg of resveratrol daily didn't require dose changes for CYP3A4 drugs. This concern is theoretical and based on test-tube data. Mometasone Furoate topical products are used to relieve the inflammation and itching (pruritus) that come with corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses — a broad category of skin conditions that respond to steroid treatment.

Mometasone Furoate Topical Solution (Lotion) is specifically indicated for these skin conditions in patients 12 years of age and older. Mometasone Furoate cream may be used in adults and in children 2 years of age and older.
