nefazodone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Resveratrol interacts with.

Theoretically, resveratrol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that resveratrol can inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, clinical research shows that taking resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks does not necessitate dose adjustments to medications metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here's the gist for nefazodone: your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break it down. In test-tube studies, resveratrol can slow that same enzyme. If that happened in your body, nefazodone could clear a little slower and build up, which in theory might mean stronger side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, dry mouth, or nausea.

The good news: this concern comes from lab work, not real people. In fact, one human study using a hefty 3000 mg of resveratrol daily for eight weeks did not require any dose changes for CYP3A4 medicines. So the actual risk looks low. Still, since nefazodone can be touchy, check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding a resveratrol supplement.

What Is Nefazodone Used For?

Brand name: Serzone

Nefazodone Hydrochloride tablets are approved to treat depression, specifically major depressive disorder (MDD). Clinical trials established its effectiveness over 6 to 8 weeks in outpatients and 6 weeks in hospitalized patients with depression.

Nefazodone has also been shown to help prevent depression from coming back in patients who responded well to initial treatment. Because of a serious risk of liver failure, prescribers are advised to consider other antidepressants before turning to nefazodone.
