Ondansetron falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Resveratrol interacts with.

Theoretically, resveratrol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
In vitro research shows that resveratrol can inhibit CYP1A2 enzymes. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with Zofran (ondansetron) and resveratrol. Ondansetron is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. In test-tube studies, resveratrol can slow that enzyme down. In theory, that means ondansetron could hang around a little longer in your system, which might slightly nudge up its effects and the chance of side effects like headache, constipation, or feeling tired.

The honest part: this has only been seen in lab dishes, never reported in real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Ondansetron isn't a prodrug, so it doesn't flip the other way. A glass of wine or a handful of berries won't matter. If you take concentrated resveratrol supplements regularly, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up.

Ondansetron also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, resveratrol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that resveratrol can inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, clinical research shows that taking resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks does not necessitate dose adjustments to medications metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here's the gist for combining resveratrol with ondansetron (Zofran). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break ondansetron down. In test-tube studies, resveratrol can slow that enzyme a bit, which in theory could let ondansetron build up slightly. If that happened, you might notice more of its usual effects, like headache, constipation, or feeling lightheaded.

The good news: this is mostly a lab finding, not something clearly seen in people. In fact, one human study using a hefty 3000 mg of resveratrol daily didn't require any dose changes for CYP3A4 drugs. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, it's always worth a quick word with your pharmacist or doctor before adding resveratrol.

About Ondansetron

What Is Ondansetron Used For?

Brand name: Zofran

Ondansetron is used to prevent nausea and vomiting in several situations. Oral forms (tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, and oral solution) are approved to prevent nausea and vomiting from highly or moderately emetogenic (nausea-causing) cancer chemotherapy, from radiation therapy to the abdomen or whole body, and from surgery.

Ondansetron injection (given intravenously or intramuscularly in a clinical setting) is approved to prevent nausea and vomiting from emetogenic cancer chemotherapy — including high-dose cisplatin — in adults and children as young as 6 months old, as well as to prevent postoperative nausea and vomiting.
