Simeprevir Sodium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Resveratrol interacts with.

Theoretically, resveratrol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that resveratrol can inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, clinical research shows that taking resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks does not necessitate dose adjustments to medications metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here's the gist for Olysio (simeprevir). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break this medicine down. In test-tube studies, resveratrol can slow that same enzyme a bit. If that happened in your body, simeprevir could build up slightly, which in theory might nudge up side effects like rash, sensitivity to sunlight, itching, or nausea.

The good news is that this concern comes only from lab work, not from people. In an actual human study, resveratrol (even at high doses for 8 weeks) didn't force any dose changes for CYP3A4 medicines. So I'd call this a low, mostly theoretical worry. Still, since hep C treatment matters a lot, please run any resveratrol supplement past your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Simeprevir Used For?

Brand name: Olysio

  • Simeprevir is used along with ribavirin (Copegus, Rebetol) and peginterferon alfa (Pegasys) to treat chronic hepatitis C (an ongoing viral infection that damages the liver). Simeprevir is in a class of medications called protease inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in the body. Simeprevir may not prevent the spread of hepatitis C to other people.
