Methoxsalen falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Rue interacts with.

Theoretically, rue might increase the risk for phototoxicity when used with photosensitizing drugs.
Rue contains photosensitizing furanocoumarins and psoralens and has been associated with multiple reports of phototoxic reactions. There is also one case report of an increased phototoxic response to psoralen and ultraviolet A (PUVA) therapy associated with ingestion of rue.

Here's the thing about Methoxsalen: it's a psoralen itself, given right before light therapy (PUVA) to make your skin react to ultraviolet A light. That reaction is the whole point of the treatment, but it's a fine line between a helpful response and a burn. Rue happens to carry its own psoralens and furanocoumarins, the same kind of light-sensitizing compounds.

So stacking rue on top of methoxsalen could pile sensitizer on top of sensitizer, raising the chance of an exaggerated phototoxic reaction: think severe sunburn, redness, blistering, or swelling. This concern comes mostly from anecdotal case reports, not strong studies, so it's a real-world caution rather than a certainty. Still, please don't add rue without first checking with your dermatologist or pharmacist.
