Moclobemide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Sage interacts with.

Theoretically, sage might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19.
In vitro evidence suggests that aqueous extracts of sage can inhibit CYP2C19. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for you. Moclobemide is an antidepressant that your body partly clears using a liver enzyme called CYP2C19. In lab studies (test tube, not people), sage seems to slow that enzyme down. If that happens in real life, less moclobemide gets broken down, so more could build up in your blood. That might mean stronger effects and a higher chance of side effects like trouble sleeping, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, or feeling jittery.

The reassurance: this is theoretical, and it has never actually been reported in a person. Cooking with sage almost certainly won't matter. Concentrated sage extracts or sage oil are the bigger question mark. If you're thinking about a sage supplement alongside moclobemide, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Sage is a common kitchen herb that is generally safe in food amounts and is traditionally used for sore throats, digestion, sweating, and memory. Some early research is encouraging for sore throat and menopausal hot flashes, but most uses are not well proven. Concentrated extracts and the essential oil should be used carefully because high doses contain a compound called thujone, which can be harmful.
