Shilajit + Irinotecan

Irinotecan brand names: Camptosar, Onivyde.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Shilajit and Irinotecan in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the label for Irinotecan states a food rule worth keeping to.

Shilajit and Irinotecan

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Irinotecan and Shilajit in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Pregnancy Avoid Not enough safety data and contamination risk, so it is best avoided during pregnancy.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Irinotecan

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Irinotecan is filed under 8 classifications — including topoisomerase i inhibitors, topoisomerase ii inhibitors, antineoplastics. Shilajit has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) — and none of Irinotecan’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Shilajit Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Irinotecan. It is the side-effect record for Shilajit on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Shilajit, this list is the first place to look. 3 entries are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Low potassium Worth acting on Additional detail

“Orally, a case of apparent mineralocorticoid excess, or pseudohyperaldosteronism, with edema, increased urinary potassium, calcium, and magnesium loss, hypokalemia, and metabolic alkalosis, is reported in a 37-year-old female following the use of shilajit for 6 months during pregnancy. Product discontinuation and treatment with intravenous and oral potassium led to restoration of potassium levels.”

  • Raised blood pressure Worth acting on Additional detail

“Orally, a case of hypertension related to mineralocorticoid-excess syndrome or pseudohyperaldosteronism is reported in a 37-year-old female following the use of shilajit for 6 months during pregnancy. Electrocardiographic findings were normal. Product discontinuation and treatment with intravenous and oral potassium led to restoration of blood pressure and potassium levels.”

  • A severe allergic reaction / Hives Worth acting on Additional detail

“Orally, a case of allergy to shilajit made worse by exercise is reported in a 43-year-old female. Although symptoms were lacking when shilajit 400 mg was taken daily with meals for 3 months, she developed hives within an hour of taking a single dose of shilajit 800 mg. With intramuscular corticosteroids, symptoms improved but did not resolve.”

  • Swelling Additional detail

Recorded for Shilajit in the same Natural Medicines adverse-effect record shown under Low potassium above.

  • Headache Additional detail

“Orally, headache is reported rarely following shilajit intake in clinical research.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Shilajit — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Irinotecan’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Irinotecan column appears here.

How to take them

Some Irinotecan Products Have a Food Rule — Shilajit Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Irinotecan says to take it on an empty stomach. Most supplements — Shilajit included — are taken with a meal, so the easy mistake is swallowing both together at breakfast. Where that rule applies, keep Irinotecan on its own and move Shilajit to a meal later in the day.

This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Irinotecan products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.

Antiemetic agents should be given on the day of treatment, starting at least 30 minutes before administration of CAMPTOSAR.

From the Dosage and Administration section of the FDA label we read for Irinotecan — where that label names a specific product, the instruction is that product's. See the Irinotecan drug page ›

A food rule is not an interaction — it is about how much of the medicine you absorb. The directions that came with your own product, and your pharmacist, outrank anything on this page.

About Shilajit

What is Shilajit?

  • Fatigue and low energy
  • Male fertility and testosterone support
  • General vitality and aging
  • Athletic performance
  • Cognitive support

Shilajit is a sticky, tar-like substance found in rocks of mountain ranges like the Himalayas, used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for energy and vitality. Human evidence is limited and mostly small or early-stage, so its real benefits are uncertain. Quality and purity vary widely, and contamination with heavy metals is a real concern, so choose tested products and talk to your pharmacist before use.

Mineral exudate (resin) from rock layers · Resin, capsules, powder, tablets

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Shilajit is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Shilajit record says about it on its own.

Shilajit: dosing

There is no well-established standard dose for shilajit, and products vary a lot in strength and form. Choose products that have been independently tested for heavy metals and contaminants.
