Heads up on a mismatch here. The interaction on file is really about stimulant laxatives, not Armodafinil (Nuvigil). Armodafinil is a wakefulness medicine for sleepiness from narcolepsy, shift work, or sleep apnea. It does not work like a laxative and does not strip out your body's minerals, so this particular concern about losing potassium and other electrolytes does not apply to it.

The actual worry is this: Strophanthus contains potent heart compounds similar to digoxin, and low potassium can make them more toxic. Armodafinil itself does not cause that. Honestly, Strophanthus is a powerful, risky plant that should only be used under close medical care. Please run any combination past your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.

Strophanthus is a plant that contains powerful heart-affecting compounds called cardiac glycosides (the best known is ouabain/g-strophanthin). Because these substances can strongly affect heart rhythm and are toxic in the wrong amount, Strophanthus is not a casual supplement and should never be used without close medical supervision. Reliable modern evidence for its supplement use is limited.

What Is Armodafinil Used For?

Brand name: Nuvigil

Armodafinil tablets (including the brand Nuvigil) are used to improve wakefulness in adults who have excessive sleepiness linked to one of three conditions: obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), narcolepsy, or shift work disorder (SWD).

In obstructive sleep apnea, armodafinil treats the sleepiness itself — not the underlying airway obstruction. If CPAP (a breathing device worn during sleep) is the right treatment for you, your doctor should try that first before adding armodafinil for sleepiness.
