Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here's the gist for Cholbam (cholic acid): this is a bile acid you take to help your body handle fats and protect your liver. The concern on file is about absorption in your gut. Cholic acid and other oral medicines can bind to or jostle with thyroid hormones, so taking your thyroid extract right alongside it may mean your body soaks up less of that thyroid hormone.

The good news is this is rated a minor, fixable issue. It's usually solved by spacing them out, taking your thyroid product on an empty stomach and waiting a while before other pills. Cholic acid itself stays effective; the real worry is getting steady thyroid levels. Since thyroid dosing is sensitive, please check timing with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
