Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here's the simple version: when you take daprodustat (Jesduvroq) at the same time as a thyroid extract supplement, the daprodustat tablet can get in the way of how well your body absorbs the thyroid hormone. This is the same issue thyroid medicine has with food, antacids, and minerals like calcium or iron. The hormone simply doesn't get picked up as well from your gut if something else is sitting in there with it.

The good news is this is rated a minor interaction, and it's mostly about timing, not danger. Thyroid hormone works best on an empty stomach. A practical fix is to space them apart (take your thyroid product first, then wait before other pills). Since over-the-counter thyroid extract is unpredictable to begin with, please check the best plan with your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Daprodustat Used For?

Brand name: Jesduvroq

Jesduvroq (daprodustat) is approved to treat anemia due to chronic kidney disease (CKD) in adults who have been on dialysis for at least four months. It works by stimulating the body's own red blood cell production to reduce the need for blood transfusions.

Important limits: Jesduvroq is not a substitute for emergency blood transfusions, and it is not approved for people with CKD who are not on dialysis. It has also not been shown to improve quality of life, fatigue, or overall well-being.
