Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
Oral Drugs
Why this applies to Doxazosin Mesylate
Doxazosin Mesylate falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here the concern runs in one direction: your doxazosin can affect how well your body absorbs the thyroid hormone, not the other way around. Like other oral medications, doxazosin sitting in your stomach can get in the way of thyroid extract being taken up properly. That can leave you under-treated for your thyroid, with lingering symptoms like tiredness, feeling cold, or sluggishness.
The good news is this is a minor, timing-based issue that's easy to manage. The usual fix is spacing them apart: take your thyroid product on an empty stomach, and take doxazosin separately. Doxazosin itself can cause dizziness or lightheadedness when you stand up, so timing matters for that too. Ask your pharmacist to help you set up a simple schedule that keeps both working well.

About Thyroid Extract
What is Thyroid Extract?
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Fatigue and low energy
- Weight management
- Sluggish metabolism
- General thyroid support
Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. Self-treating a thyroid problem with these supplements can be risky, so always work with a doctor or pharmacist and use prescription thyroid medicine when treatment is needed.
About Doxazosin
What Is Doxazosin Used For?
Brand name: Cardura
Doxazosin tablets (Cardura, Doxazosin, Doxazosin mesylate) are approved to treat the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — an enlarged prostate that causes urinary problems — and to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack. Doxazosin tablets may be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines.
Cardura XL (the extended-release tablet) is approved only for BPH symptoms. Cardura XL is not approved for high blood pressure.
