Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here's the good news on this one: the interaction we have on file is really about oral medicines and foods that can bind up thyroid hormone in your gut and lower how much gets absorbed. Epoetin beta (Recormon, Mircera) is given as an injection, not a pill you swallow, so it doesn't sit in your stomach competing with thyroid extract for absorption. There's no meaningful interaction in that direction.

The bigger point I'd make: thyroid extract is unpredictable and isn't a substitute for prescription care. Since you're being treated for anemia tied to kidney disease, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before adding any thyroid supplement, just so your whole picture stays safe and monitored.

About Methoxy Polyethylene Glycol-Epoetin Beta Injection

What Is Methoxy Polyethylene Glycol-Epoetin Beta Injection Used For?

Brand names: Recormon, Mircera

Mircera is used to treat anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in adult patients, whether or not they are on dialysis. It is also approved for pediatric patients aged 3 months to 17 years who are on dialysis or not on dialysis, but only when they are converting from another ESA after their hemoglobin level has already been stabilized.

Mircera is not indicated for anemia caused by cancer chemotherapy, and it is not a substitute for red blood cell (RBC) transfusions when anemia needs to be corrected immediately. It has not been shown to improve symptoms, fatigue, or quality of life.
