Ezogabine falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.

Food and medications can interfere with thyroid hormone absorption. Some foods, particularly those high in fiber or containing certain minerals like calcium or iron, can bind to thyroid hormones and reduce their absorption in the digestive tract. Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here the concern runs the other way around. It is not that ezogabine (Potiga) changes your thyroid extract, but that ezogabine, taken by mouth, can sit in your stomach right when your thyroid hormone is trying to get absorbed. Thyroid hormone (the T4 and T3 in animal-gland extract) absorbs best on an empty stomach, and other oral pills taken at the same time can blunt how much gets in.

The practical fix is simple: separate them. Many people take their thyroid product first thing in the morning and wait at least 30 to 60 minutes before other medicines like ezogabine. If your thyroid absorption dips, you might feel more tired or sluggish, not anything dangerous from the seizure medicine itself. Since OTC thyroid extract is unstandardized, please confirm timing with your pharmacist or doctor.
