Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here's some good news that should put your mind at ease. The interaction on file talks about oral medicines and how foods or other pills can block your body from absorbing swallowed thyroid hormone. Lindane (Kwell) is different. It's a lotion or shampoo you put right on your skin to kill scabies mites or lice. You don't swallow it, so it doesn't compete with thyroid extract in your stomach or gut the way an oral tablet would.

Because they work in completely separate places (one on the skin, one absorbed through the digestive tract), I wouldn't expect any meaningful clash between them. Just follow the lindane directions carefully, since overusing it can be harmful, and check with your pharmacist or doctor if you have questions about either product.

What Is Lindane Used For?

Brand name: Kwell

  • Lindane is used to treat scabies (mites that attach themselves to the skin) and lice (small insects that attach themselves to the skin on the head or pubic area ['crabs']). Lindane is in a class of medications called scabicides and pediculicides. It works by killing lice and mites.

  • Lindane does not stop you from getting scabies or lice. You should only use lindane if you already have these conditions, not if you are afraid that you may get them.
