Lindane falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Dendrobium interacts with.

The dendrobium constituent dendrobine is reported to have convulsant effects. Theoretically, combining dendrobium with pro-convulsant drugs might increase the risk of seizure. Some drugs that lower the seizure threshold include anesthetics (propofol, others), antiarrhythmics (mexiletine), antibiotics (amphotericin, penicillin, cephalosporins, imipenem), antidepressants (bupropion, others), antihistamines (cyproheptadine, others), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine), narcotics (fentanyl, others), stimulants (methylphenidate), theophylline, and others.

Here's the thing to know about Lindane (Kwell): even though you put it on your skin to treat scabies or lice, a small amount can get absorbed into your body. At higher levels, Lindane is known to make the brain more prone to seizures, which is why it's used carefully and usually only once. Dendrobium contains a compound called dendrobine that, in lab and animal studies, may also lower the seizure threshold.

So the worry is that the two together could add up and make a seizure slightly more likely. To be fair, this is a theoretical concern based on how these things work, not from real patient cases, so I wouldn't panic. Still, since Lindane already carries seizure warnings, it's worth running this by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Lindane Used For?

Brand name: Kwell

  • Lindane is used to treat scabies (mites that attach themselves to the skin) and lice (small insects that attach themselves to the skin on the head or pubic area ['crabs']). Lindane is in a class of medications called scabicides and pediculicides. It works by killing lice and mites.

  • Lindane does not stop you from getting scabies or lice. You should only use lindane if you already have these conditions, not if you are afraid that you may get them.
