Clobazam falls under ANTICONVULSANTS — the group Dendrobium interacts with.

The dendrobium constituent dendrobine is reported to have convulsant effects. Theoretically, combining dendrobium with anticonvulsant drugs might decrease drug effectiveness and increase the risk of seizure. Some anticonvulsant drugs include phenobarbital, primidone (Mysoline), valproic acid (Depakene), gabapentin (Neurontin), carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenytoin (Dilantin), and others.

Here's the concern with pairing Dendrobium and your Clobazam. One natural compound in Dendrobium, called dendrobine, has been reported to act as a convulsant, meaning it may nudge the brain toward more electrical activity. Since Clobazam is doing the opposite job (calming abnormal activity to control seizures in Lennox-Gastaut syndrome), the worry is that Dendrobium could work against it and make your medicine less effective. That could mean breakthrough seizures.

I want to be honest about how solid this is: it's theoretical, based on how the plant behaves in lab settings, not on real patient studies. Still, with seizure control you don't want to gamble. Please don't add Dendrobium, or stop your Clobazam, without first checking with your pharmacist or neurologist.

Clobazam is used as an add-on (adjunctive) treatment for seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), a severe form of childhood-onset epilepsy. It is approved for patients 2 years of age and older.

This indication applies to all available forms: Sympazan (dissolving oral film), Onfi (tablets and oral suspension), and generic clobazam tablets and oral suspension.
