Clonazepam falls under ANTICONVULSANTS — the group Dendrobium interacts with.

The dendrobium constituent dendrobine is reported to have convulsant effects. Theoretically, combining dendrobium with anticonvulsant drugs might decrease drug effectiveness and increase the risk of seizure. Some anticonvulsant drugs include phenobarbital, primidone (Mysoline), valproic acid (Depakene), gabapentin (Neurontin), carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenytoin (Dilantin), and others.

Here's the concern with pairing Dendrobium and clonazepam. One of the natural compounds in Dendrobium, called dendrobine, has been reported to have convulsant (seizure-promoting) effects in lab settings. Clonazepam works in the opposite direction, calming down abnormal electrical activity in the brain to control seizures and panic. So in theory, Dendrobium could work against your clonazepam and make it less effective, which might mean a higher chance of breakthrough seizures or panic symptoms.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is theoretical, based on how the compounds behave, not on real cases in people. Still, since clonazepam is keeping seizures or panic under control, I wouldn't risk undercutting it. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Dendrobium.

What Is Clonazepam Used For?

Brand names: Klonopin, Rivotril, Ceberclon

Clonazepam is approved to treat several types of seizures — including Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (a severe form of epilepsy), akinetic seizures (sudden loss of muscle tone), myoclonic seizures (sudden muscle jerks), and absence seizures (brief lapses of awareness) in patients who haven't responded to other medicines.

It is also approved for panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia (fear of situations that might cause panic). Panic disorder involves repeated, unexpected panic attacks along with ongoing worry about having more attacks.
