SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS
Why this applies to Cefuroxime
Cefuroxime falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Dendrobium interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Cefuroxime and Dendrobium. Cephalosporin antibiotics like cefuroxime can, in rare cases, slightly lower the brain's seizure threshold, meaning they can make a seizure a touch easier to trigger. Dendrobium contains a compound called dendrobine that, in animal studies, has shown convulsant (seizure-promoting) effects. So in theory, pairing the two could nudge that risk up a bit.
I want to be honest: this concern is theoretical, based on how these things work in the lab, not on real reports of people having problems together. For most folks taking a normal course of cefuroxime, this isn't likely to cause trouble. Still, if you have a history of seizures, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

About Dendrobium
What is Dendrobium?
- Dry mouth and thirst
- Supporting digestion
- General tonic/vitality
- Eye and skin health
- Recovery after illness
Dendrobium is a group of orchids long used in traditional Chinese medicine, often to moisten the body and as a general tonic. Human evidence for its modern health claims is very limited, so it should be viewed as a traditional remedy rather than a proven treatment. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding because safety isn't known.
About Cefuroxime
What Is Cefuroxime Used For?
Brand names: Ceftin, Kefurox, Zinacef
Cefuroxime Axetil tablets treat several common bacterial infections in adults and children, including strep throat, ear infections (in children who can swallow tablets), sinus infections, acute flare-ups of chronic bronchitis, uncomplicated skin infections, urinary tract infections, uncomplicated gonorrhea, and early Lyme disease.
The injectable forms — Cefuroxime and Cefuroxime sodium — are used in hospital or clinical settings to treat more serious infections, including pneumonia and other lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and skin-structure infections, septicemia (blood infection), meningitis (infection of the brain and spinal cord lining), gonorrhea, and bone and joint infections. The injectable forms are also used to help prevent infections in certain surgical procedures.

Cefuroxime Is Linked to Lower Levels of 7 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Cefuroxime as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Dendrobium — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
