Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
Oral Drugs
Why this applies to Lomustine
Lomustine falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here the concern actually runs in the opposite direction from what you might expect. It is not that lomustine changes your thyroid extract, but that taking the two together (or anything else right alongside the thyroid product) can reduce how well the thyroid hormone is absorbed. Thyroid hormones absorb best on an empty stomach, and other oral medicines or food in the gut can blunt that uptake.
Lomustine is a chemotherapy pill, and it is usually given as a single dose every several weeks. Since its schedule is so spread out, it is easy to simply separate the two by a few hours so neither gets in the other's way. The bigger issue is that self-treating with an unstandardized thyroid extract while on cancer treatment is risky. Please loop in your oncologist and pharmacist before combining them.
What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.

By severity: 1 major · 14 moderate · 10 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Lomustine page
“One capsule of lomustine (Ceenu) often carries a whole chemotherapy cycle, so supplements that keep it from being absorbed, or that blunt its cancer-fighting action, deserve more respect here than with most drugs. The lone major-rated interaction, activated charcoal, can bind lomustine in the gut and sharply cut how much reaches the body.”

About Thyroid Extract
What is Thyroid Extract?
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Fatigue and low energy
- Weight management
- Sluggish metabolism
- General thyroid support
Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. Self-treating a thyroid problem with these supplements can be risky, so always work with a doctor or pharmacist and use prescription thyroid medicine when treatment is needed.
