Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here's the gist for these two together: this interaction is really about the thyroid extract's absorption, not about your Mirabegron. When you swallow pills at the same time, other oral medications and food can bind up thyroid hormone in your gut and keep it from being absorbed well. Mirabegron isn't known to chemically grab onto thyroid hormone, so the concern here is mostly the general rule that thyroid hormone likes an empty stomach and a little space from other tablets.

Practically speaking, simply separating them by a half hour or more usually keeps the thyroid product working as intended. This is rated minor, and Mirabegron's own effects (like a possible small bump in blood pressure or a dry mouth) shouldn't change here. Since over-the-counter thyroid extract is unpredictable, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Mirabegron Used For?

Brand name: Myrbetriq

Mirabegron extended-release tablets treat overactive bladder (OAB) in adults — specifically the symptoms of urge urinary incontinence (sudden, urgent leaks), urgency, and frequent urination. They can be used alone or, in the case of Myrbetriq tablets, combined with solifenacin succinate for OAB.

Mirabegron extended-release tablets also treat neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) — a bladder control problem caused by nerve damage — in children aged 3 and older who weigh 35 kg or more. Myrbetriq extended-release oral suspension (granules) treats NDO in children aged 3 and older regardless of weight, including those under 35 kg.
