Oral Drugs
Why this applies to Sodium Picosulfate, Magnesium Oxide, Anhydrous Citric Acid
Sodium Picosulfate, Magnesium Oxide, Anhydrous Citric Acid falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here's the thing to know about this combo: the Clenpiq prep contains magnesium, and magnesium (along with other minerals) can bind to thyroid hormone in your gut and keep your body from absorbing it well. So if you take your thyroid extract too close to your colonoscopy prep, the thyroid dose may not work as fully that day. That's the only real concern here, and it's considered minor.
The good news is timing fixes it. Since the prep itself causes heavy watery diarrhea to clean you out, absorption of anything taken nearby is unreliable anyway. I'd separate them by several hours and follow the exact prep schedule your doctor gave you. Ask your pharmacist or the prescribing doctor how to space your thyroid medicine around your prep so you don't miss a beat.

“Activated charcoal is the one entry here rated major, and it deserves real attention from anyone taking Clenpiq (sodium picosulfate, magnesium oxide, and anhydrous citric acid), the bowel prep that clears the colon before a colonoscopy. About Thyroid Extract
What is Thyroid Extract?
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Fatigue and low energy
- Weight management
- Sluggish metabolism
- General thyroid support
Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. Self-treating a thyroid problem with these supplements can be risky, so always work with a doctor or pharmacist and use prescription thyroid medicine when treatment is needed.
