Here's the good news: this interaction isn't really about valbenazine (Ingrezza) hurting your thyroid extract or the other way around. The concern on file is simply about timing and absorption. Thyroid hormones, whether from a prescription or an animal-derived extract, get absorbed best on an empty stomach. When you take other pills, foods, or minerals like calcium and iron too close to your thyroid dose, they can grab onto the hormone and lower how much your body soaks up.

So the practical move is spacing. Take your thyroid product on an empty stomach, and separate your valbenazine by a half hour or more. This keeps your thyroid levels steady and lets Ingrezza do its job of calming those uncontrollable movements. Since over-the-counter thyroid extracts aren't standardized, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before mixing the two.

What Is Valbenazine Used For?

Brand name: Ingrezza

Valbenazine — sold as Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle — is approved for two conditions in adults. The first is tardive dyskinesia, a movement disorder that causes uncontrolled, repetitive facial or body movements, often brought on by long-term use of certain psychiatric medications. The second is chorea associated with Huntington's disease, which refers to the involuntary, dance-like jerking movements that are a hallmark of that condition.

Both Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle are approved for both of these uses.
