Here's the gist with Epzicom (abacavir and lamivudine) and tragacanth. Tragacanth is a plant gum that swells into a thick gel when it meets fluid in your stomach. In theory, that slippery gel could grab onto a pill you swallow and change how much of it gets absorbed. It might lower the amount, raise it, or do nothing at all, so the direction isn't predictable.

For an HIV medicine, getting the full, steady dose absorbed really matters, since less of it in your body could let the virus gain ground over time. To play it safe, a simple spacing trick helps: take your Epzicom first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before any tragacanth. Honestly, this concern is theoretical, but it's worth a quick word with your pharmacist or HIV provider.
