ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Methylphenidate
Methylphenidate falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Tragacanth interacts with.
Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: tragacanth is a plant gum that swells into a thick gel when it hits fluid in your stomach. Because of that gel, there's a theoretical chance it could grab onto your methylphenidate and change how much gets absorbed. It could lower absorption (so your Ritalin or Concerta feels weaker, with less focus and more restlessness) or, less commonly, nudge it the other way. Methylphenidate isn't a prodrug, so this is really just about absorption, not how your body activates it.
This is based on pharmacology, not real-world reports, so don't panic. A practical fix is to take your methylphenidate first and wait 30 to 60 minutes before any tragacanth. Run it by your pharmacist if you use it regularly.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Methylphenidate page
“Methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta, Metadate) is itself a stimulant, and that one fact shapes most of this list. The largest cluster of interacting supplements adds a second stimulant on top of it, from ephedra and its relatives to everyday caffeine sources like coffee and green tea, which can push heart rate and blood pressure higher…”
