ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Atropine, Hyoscyamine, Scopolamine
Atropine, Hyoscyamine, Scopolamine falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Tragacanth interacts with.
Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with atropine, hyoscyamine, or scopolamine taken by mouth. Tragacanth swells into a thick, slippery gel in your stomach and gut. That gel can grab onto a pill and slow or change how much of it your body actually absorbs. So when you swallow these together, your medicine might be absorbed a little less, a little more, or about the same. It's hard to predict.
I want to be honest: this is a theoretical concern based on how the gel behaves, not on strong human studies, so don't panic. If absorption dropped, you might notice your usual benefit fading (more stomach cramping, runny nose, or the symptoms you're treating). A simple fix is timing: take your medicine first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before the tragacanth. When in doubt, run it by your pharmacist.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Atropine, Hyoscyamine, Scopolamine page
“Piling on more of the same drying, sedating anticholinergic effect is the central worry with atropine, hyoscyamine, and scopolamine (sold together as Colytrol), and I'd approach this list with genuine care. Thirty of the herbs on file act the same way these drugs do, so pairing them can stack up dry mouth, blurred vision, racing heart,…”
