Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the simple version: tragacanth is basically a gummy fiber. When you swallow it, it swells into a thick gel in your stomach and gut. That gel can wrap around things you take by mouth, including your vitamin B12 tablet, and that may change how much of it your body actually soaks up. It could lower your B12 absorption, or it might not matter much at all.

This is a theoretical concern based on how the fiber works, not something proven in studies, so I wouldn't panic. B12 isn't a prodrug; it just needs to be absorbed to work. To stay safe, separate them: take your B12 first, then your tragacanth about 30 to 60 minutes later. Check with your pharmacist if you have questions.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but anyone with allergies or who is pregnant or breastfeeding should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
