ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Lenalidomide
Lenalidomide falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Tragacanth interacts with.
Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the situation with these two. Tragacanth is a plant gum that swells into a thick, slippery gel when it hits fluid in your stomach. The concern is that this gel could grab onto a pill like lenalidomide (Revlimid) and change how much of it actually gets absorbed into your body. It could lower the amount you take in, or in some cases shift it the other way.
This is purely theoretical, based on how the fiber behaves, not on real cases with lenalidomide. Still, since this is a serious cancer medicine where getting a steady, reliable dose matters, I wouldn't want absorption swinging around. A simple fix is to space them out: take your lenalidomide first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before any tragacanth. Please run this by your oncology pharmacist to be safe.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Lenalidomide page
“People taking lenalidomide (Revlimid) for multiple myeloma are often drawn to immune-boosting supplements, which is exactly why this list deserves genuine care. Fifty-three of its 70 entries are herbs and mushrooms thought to stimulate the immune system, astragalus, ginseng, and beta-glucans among them, and each could theoretically pus…”

About Tragacanth
What is Tragacanth?
- Soothing sore throat and cough
- Digestive upset and constipation
- Thickening or binding agent in products
- Skin soothing in creams and pastes
Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. There is very little solid human research showing it treats any specific condition. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but anyone with allergies or who is pregnant or breastfeeding should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
About Lenalidomide
What Is Lenalidomide Used For?
Brand name: Revlimid
Lenalidomide capsules (brand names Revlimid and Lenalidomide) are used to treat several blood cancers and related conditions in adults. These include multiple myeloma (MM) — both in combination with dexamethasone and as maintenance therapy after a stem cell transplant — and transfusion-dependent anemia caused by low- or intermediate-1-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) linked to a specific chromosome change called deletion 5q.
Lenalidomide capsules are also used for mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) that has come back or stopped responding after at least two prior treatments (one of which included bortezomib). In combination with a rituximab product, they treat previously treated follicular lymphoma (FL) and previously treated marginal zone lymphoma (MZL). Lenalidomide is not approved for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) outside of clinical trials.
