Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the thing about tragacanth: it's mostly a thick, gel-forming fiber. When you take it close to a swallowed medicine like molnupiravir, that slippery gel could in theory grab onto the drug in your stomach and gut and change how much of it gets absorbed. It might lower absorption, raise it, or do nothing at all. The honest answer is we don't know for sure, because this concern is theoretical and based on how the fiber behaves, not on real studies with this antiviral.

Since molnupiravir is given as a short, full-strength 5-day course to fight COVID, you don't want anything nudging its levels down and weakening it. A simple fix is spacing them out: take your molnupiravir first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before any tragacanth. When in doubt, check with your pharmacist.

Lagevrio (molnupiravir) is authorized under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) — not a standard FDA approval — to treat mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in adults. It is intended only for people who are at high risk of progressing to severe COVID-19, including hospitalization or death.

Lagevrio is not a first-choice option for everyone. It is meant for adults for whom other FDA-approved or authorized COVID-19 treatments are not accessible or clinically appropriate. It is not authorized for use in anyone under 18 years of age.
