Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the simple version: tragacanth is basically a gummy fiber. When you swallow it, it swells into a thick gel in your stomach and gut. That gel can sometimes grab onto a pill that's nearby and slow down or change how much of the medicine your body actually soaks up. With Ponvory (ponesimod), your daily MS tablet, the worry is that timing them too close together could nudge its absorption up or down a little.

I want to be honest, this is a theoretical concern based on how fiber behaves, not something proven with ponesimod specifically. To play it safe, an easy fix is to take your tragacanth about 30 to 60 minutes after your ponesimod dose. Food amounts in products are unlikely to matter much. If you take concentrated tragacanth supplements, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

It is not approved for children, and it is only available as an oral tablet under the brand name Ponvory.
