Theoretically, tragacanth might alter absorption of oral drugs.
Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the simple version: tragacanth is mostly a gummy fiber that swells into a thick gel in your stomach. That gel can sometimes grab onto a pill and slow down or change how much of it your body absorbs. With Tiopronin (Thiola), which you take by mouth to lower cystine levels and prevent kidney stones, the worry is that the gel could trap some of the dose. If less gets absorbed, the medicine may not protect against stones as well.

Keep in mind this is only a theoretical concern based on how the fiber behaves, not from real studies in people. Food amounts are unlikely to matter. To be safe, a simple fix is spacing them apart: take your Tiopronin first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before the tragacanth. Check with your pharmacist if you're unsure.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. There is very little solid human research showing it treats any specific condition. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but anyone with allergies or who is pregnant or breastfeeding should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
