Vitamin D and Aluminum Chloride

Vitamin D might increase aluminum absorption and toxicity, but this has only been reported in people with renal failure.
The protein that transports calcium across the intestinal wall can also bind and transport aluminum. This protein is stimulated by vitamin D, which may therefore increase aluminum absorption. This mechanism may contribute to increased aluminum levels and toxicity in people with renal failure, when they take vitamin D and aluminum-containing phosphate binders chronically.

Here's some good news that should ease your mind. The aluminum interaction with vitamin D applies to aluminum you swallow, like the aluminum-containing antacids or phosphate binders some people with kidney failure take by mouth. Vitamin D can nudge your gut to absorb a little more of that swallowed aluminum, which only matters for people whose kidneys can't clear it well.

The product you asked about, Aluminum Chloride (Drysol, Driclor), is a topical antiperspirant you roll or dab onto your skin to control heavy sweating. You're not eating it, and almost none gets into your bloodstream. So vitamin D and your underarm antiperspirant don't realistically interact. If you have kidney problems or take oral aluminum products, check with your pharmacist or doctor to be safe.
