Evidence from animal research suggests that taking white horehound extract lowers blood pressure. Theoretically, taking white horehound with antihypertensive drugs might enhance therapeutic effects and increase the risk of hypotension. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the gist for bosentan (Tracleer): animal studies hint that white horehound may gently lower blood pressure on its own. Since bosentan already relaxes and opens up blood vessels in your lungs and body, pairing the two could, in theory, add up and push your blood pressure a little too low.

If that happened, you might notice dizziness, lightheadedness, feeling faint when you stand up, or unusual tiredness. I want to be honest, though: this is a theoretical concern based only on lab and animal data, not strong human evidence, and an occasional horehound cough drop is unlikely to matter. Concentrated extracts taken regularly are more of a question mark. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it, and don't change your bosentan.

What Is Bosentan Used For?

Brand name: Tracleer

Bosentan is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. In adults, it helps improve the ability to exercise and slows how quickly the disease gets worse.

In children aged 3 years and older with idiopathic (no known cause) or congenital (present from birth) PAH, bosentan is used to lower resistance in the lung blood vessels, which is expected to improve exercise ability. Tracleer is one brand approved for both adults and pediatric patients with PAH.
