Guanadrel Sulfate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group White Horehound interacts with.

Evidence from animal research suggests that taking white horehound extract lowers blood pressure. Theoretically, taking white horehound with antihypertensive drugs might enhance therapeutic effects and increase the risk of hypotension. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Guanadrel (Hylorel) is an older blood pressure medicine that works by lowering the activity of nerves that tighten your blood vessels. White horehound, the bitter herb in some old-fashioned cough drops, has been shown in animal studies to nudge blood pressure down a bit on its own. So the concern here is simple addition: if both lower your pressure, taking them together could push it down too far.

What that might feel like: dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision, or feeling faint when you stand up (guanadrel is already known for that). Keep in mind this interaction is theoretical, and a normal cough drop has only a tiny amount. Still, before using horehound regularly as a supplement, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
