Aripiprazole Lauroxil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group White Pepper interacts with.

In vitro evidence suggests that some constituents of white pepper inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6). Theoretically, concomitant use may affect drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), flecainide (Tambocor), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), ondansetron (Zofran), paroxetine (Paxil), risperidone (Risperdal), tramadol (Ultram), venlafaxine (Effexor), and others.

Here's the situation with Aristada (aripiprazole lauroxil). Your body partly relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to break this medication down. Lab studies hint that piperine, the spicy compound in white pepper, might slow that same enzyme. If that happened, aripiprazole could clear a bit more slowly and build up, which in theory could mean more side effects like drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, or muscle stiffness.

That said, this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube data, not real patients. The white pepper you sprinkle on food is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated piperine supplements are a different story, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before using them, especially since this is a long-acting injection you can't simply stop.

Aripiprazole Lauroxil also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

In vitro evidence suggests that piperine, a constituent of white pepper, inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). Theoretically, concomitant use with white pepper might increase the effects and side effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, nicardipine, verapamil), chemotherapeutic agents (etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), glucocorticoids, cisapride (Propulsid), alfentanil (Alfenta), fentanyl (Sublimaze), losartan (Cozaar), fluoxetine (Prozac), midazolam (Versed), omeprazole (Prilosec), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), fexofenadine (Allegra), and numerous others.

Here's the gist for you. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down aripiprazole (Aristada). Lab studies hint that piperine, the spicy compound in white pepper, can slow that enzyme down. In theory, if the enzyme works more slowly, more of the medication could linger in your system, which might nudge up its usual effects and side effects like drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, tremor, or feeling lightheaded when standing up.

That said, I want to keep this in perspective. This concern is theoretical and comes only from test-tube research, not from real people. Normal cooking amounts of white pepper are very unlikely to matter here. Concentrated piperine supplements are a different story, so loop in your pharmacist or doctor before starting one.

Aripiprazole injection is used to treat schizophrenia and to provide maintenance treatment for bipolar I disorder in adults. Different injectable products carry these approvals.

Abilify Asimtufii is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and as maintenance monotherapy for bipolar I disorder in adults. Aristada is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults, with Aristada Initio used specifically to help start Aristada therapy.
