Abemaciclib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Zedoary interacts with.

Theoretically, zedoary might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In-vitro research shows that a methanol extract of zedoary strongly inhibits the CYP3A4 metabolism of the tyrosine kinase inhibitors lapatinib and sorafenib, and to a lesser extent, gefitinib.

Here's the thing to know about Verzenio (abemaciclib): your body clears it using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Zedoary, in lab dish studies, seems to slow that same enzyme down. If that holds true in people, your abemaciclib could clear more slowly and build up in your blood, which can mean stronger side effects like diarrhea, low blood counts, fatigue, or nausea. Abemaciclib is not a prodrug, so more drug here means more effect, not less.

I want to be honest, though: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube work with other cancer drugs, not actual studies with abemaciclib in patients. Since this is a serious medication, please don't add zedoary on your own. Run it by your oncology team or pharmacist first.

About Abemaciclib

What Is Abemaciclib Used For?

Brand name: Verzenio

Verzenio (abemaciclib) is used to treat HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer in adults. For early breast cancer at high risk of recurrence, Verzenio is taken alongside endocrine therapy (tamoxifen or an aromatase inhibitor) after surgery to help prevent the cancer from coming back.

For advanced or metastatic breast cancer (cancer that has spread), Verzenio can be used in combination with an aromatase inhibitor as a first hormonal treatment, in combination with fulvestrant after the cancer has progressed on endocrine therapy, or alone after prior endocrine therapy and chemotherapy have stopped working.
