Pimavanserin Tartrate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Zedoary interacts with.

Theoretically, zedoary might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In-vitro research shows that a methanol extract of zedoary strongly inhibits the CYP3A4 metabolism of the tyrosine kinase inhibitors lapatinib and sorafenib, and to a lesser extent, gefitinib.

Here's the gist with Nuplazid (pimavanserin) and zedoary. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear pimavanserin out of your body. Some lab studies suggest zedoary can slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, pimavanserin could build up a bit higher than usual, which might mean more side effects like dizziness, swelling in the legs, nausea, confusion, or changes in your heart's rhythm (a longer QT interval).

I want to be honest, though: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube work, not real patient cases, and it has not been proven in people. Still, since pimavanserin already carries some heart-rhythm caution, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding concentrated zedoary supplements. A pinch used as a spice in food is unlikely to be a problem.

What Is Pimavanserin Used For?

Brand name: Nuplazid

Pimavanserin — sold as Nuplazid and also available as a generic capsule — is approved to treat hallucinations and delusions in adults with Parkinson's disease psychosis. These are the unsettling false perceptions and beliefs that can occur as part of Parkinson's disease.

It is not approved for psychosis caused by other forms of dementia. Using it in elderly patients with non-Parkinson's dementia-related psychosis carries serious safety risks.
