Alpha-GPC Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Alpha-GPC against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Alpha-GPC by Pure Encapsulations
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: alpha-GPC (also called L-alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine), a compound that supplies choline to the brain and may support memory and cognitive function. The capsule also contains glycerin, vegetarian capsule material, and water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Alpha-GPC is possibly effective for Alzheimer disease based on available evidence. For cognitive function, vascular dementia, stroke, and brain tumors, the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate how well it works.
If you're considering it for any of these conditions, talk with your doctor about what the research shows and whether a trial makes sense for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Alpha-GPC is generally well tolerated in studies, but long-term safety isn't fully established. A small number of people have reported dizziness, headache, insomnia, excitation, diarrhea, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting with oral use.
Rarely, stroke has been reported with alpha-GPC use for 2 months or longer compared with non-users. The product safety information advises against use unless directed by your doctor due to insufficient safety data, so this is something to discuss with your healthcare provider before starting.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you use a scopolamine patch (Transderm Scop) for motion sickness, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting alpha-GPC, as it may reduce the patch's effectiveness. No other interactions are documented in our data for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Alpha-GPC may be worth considering if you're exploring support for Alzheimer disease, but the evidence for other cognitive or neurological concerns is still being worked out. Because long-term safety isn't fully established and rare serious effects have been reported, this isn't a supplement to start on your own — talk with your doctor or pharmacist first about whether it fits your situation and how to monitor for side effects.

Alpha-GPC by Pure Encapsulations Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Alpha-GPC by Pure Encapsulations has one documented interaction: it may theoretically reduce the effects of scopolamine (Transderm Scop), the motion sickness patch.
A small clinical trial showed that alpha-GPC can partially counteract the attention and memory impairment caused by scopolamine when given by injection, but whether it weakens the patch's anti-nausea benefit isn't fully clear. This is rated Minor severity.
