Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Momentous Alpha-GPC is a single-ingredient supplement containing AlphaSize Alpha-Glyceryl Phosphoryl Choline, commonly called alpha-GPC. This is a naturally occurring compound in the body that plays a role in cell membrane structure and signaling, particularly in the brain.

The capsule itself also contains several inactive ingredients — hypromellose, microcrystalline cellulose, calcium silicate, silica, and magnesium stearate — which are common binders and fillers used to form and stabilize the capsule.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Supports cognitive function, memory, focus and clarity.
  • We looked for evidence on: Cognitive function, Alzheimer disease, Vascular dementia, Age-related cognitive decline, Memory.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Alpha-gpc is rated "Possibly Effective" for Alzheimer disease (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Alpha-gpc is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Cognitive function, Vascular dementia.

The evidence for alpha-GPC is mixed depending on what you're hoping it will do. For Alzheimer disease, it's rated as possibly effective, meaning there's some research support but it's not conclusive.

For cognitive function, stroke, vascular dementia, and brain tumors, we don't have enough reliable evidence yet to rate how well it works. If you're considering it for memory or brain health, talk to your pharmacist about whether the current evidence matches your particular situation.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Alpha-GPC is generally well tolerated in studies, but long-term safety hasn't been fully established, so there's a limit to what we know about using it indefinitely. Rare adverse effects reported orally include dizziness, headache, insomnia, excitation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and heartburn.

There's also a rare but serious concern: people taking alpha-GPC orally for at least 2 months showed an elevated risk of stroke compared with non-users or those using it for less than 2 months. We don't have enough safety information for pregnancy and breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it if you're pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant.

Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Alpha-gpc.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • For scale: 16 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take scopolamine (Transderm Scop) for motion sickness, alpha-GPC might reduce its effectiveness. Before starting this supplement, check any prescription medications you take with the search tool below — we want to make sure nothing else comes up that could be affected.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.

Alpha-GPC may be worth considering if you're interested in brain health and have looked into the limited evidence for Alzheimer disease, but know that long-term safety isn't fully proven and there's a rare stroke risk with extended use. If you're on any medications — especially if you wear a scopolamine patch — or if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your pharmacist first.

Scopolamine (Transderm Scop)

Theoretically, alpha-GPC might decrease the effects of scopolamine.
A small clinical study shows that alpha-GPC can partially counteract the attention and memory impairment effects caused by scopolamine given intramuscularly. Whether alpha-GPC can decrease the beneficial anti-motion sickness effects of the scopolamine patch (Transderm Scop) is unclear.

Alpha-GPC by Momentous: Common Questions

Does Alpha-GPC by Momentous interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Alpha-GPC has a known interaction with 16 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Alpha-GPC contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What is alpha-GPC supposed to do?
Alpha-GPC is a compound that supports cell membranes and signaling in the brain. It's been studied most for Alzheimer disease, where it shows some promise, but the evidence for general memory or cognitive function isn't strong enough yet to say it works for those purposes.
Is it safe to take long-term?
Alpha-GPC is generally well tolerated in short-term studies, but we don't know much about safety over months or years of continuous use. One concern is that people taking it for 2 months or longer had a higher stroke risk than non-users — talk with your doctor before committing to long-term use.
What side effects should I watch for?
Most people tolerate it fine, but rarely people report dizziness, headache, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and heartburn. Stroke is a rare but serious risk with long-term use. If you notice any new or unusual symptoms, stop taking it and call your doctor.
Can I take it if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
We don't have enough safety data for pregnancy and breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you before taking it in either situation.
Does it interact with my motion sickness patch?
Alpha-GPC might reduce how well a scopolamine patch (Transderm Scop) works by partially counteracting its effects in the brain. If you wear one, check with your pharmacist before starting this supplement.
