Alpha-GPC Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Alpha-GPC against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Alpha-GPC by Pure Encapsulations
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: alpha-GPC, a naturally occurring compound involved in brain cell function. The capsule also contains a few inactive ingredients—glycerin, water, and the vegetarian capsule shell itself—which help deliver the dose.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for alpha-GPC is mixed and limited. It's rated possibly effective for Alzheimer disease based on available studies.
For brain tumors, cognitive function, vascular dementia, and stroke, the evidence is insufficient to say whether it works. If you're considering it for any of these conditions, talk it over with your doctor about whether the current data supports a trial.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Alpha-GPC is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety hasn't been fully established. Oral use has rarely been linked to dizziness, headache, insomnia, nausea, heartburn, diarrhea, and vomiting.
More concerning: alpha-GPC taken for at least 2 months has been rarely associated with an elevated stroke risk compared with non-users or shorter-term users. Because safety data is incomplete, you should take this supplement only if your doctor directs you to do so.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you use the scopolamine motion sickness patch (Transderm Scop), alpha-GPC might reduce its effectiveness—mention both to your doctor or pharmacist so you can plan accordingly. Although we have limited interaction data, run your complete medication list through the search tool on this page before starting.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Alpha-GPC may be worth considering for Alzheimer disease support, but the evidence for other uses is too thin to recommend it. The long-term safety picture is unclear, and extended use carries a rare but documented stroke concern.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this makes sense for you and how to monitor for side effects.

Alpha-GPC by Pure Encapsulations Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Alpha-GPC by Pure Encapsulations has one documented interaction: it may theoretically reduce the effects of scopolamine (Transderm Scop), the motion sickness patch.
A small clinical study shows alpha-GPC can partially offset scopolamine's effects on attention and memory when given by injection, though it's unclear whether the patch's anti-nausea benefits would be similarly affected.

Alpha-GPC
Scopolamine (Transderm Scop)
Theoretically, alpha-GPC might decrease the effects of scopolamine.
A small clinical study shows that alpha-GPC can partially counteract the attention and memory impairment effects caused by scopolamine given intramuscularly. Whether alpha-GPC can decrease the beneficial anti-motion sickness effects of the scopolamine patch (Transderm Scop) is unclear.
