Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
BetterYou B12 Boost contains two active ingredients: chromium and vitamin B12. Chromium is a trace mineral involved in how your body manages blood sugar and uses insulin.
Vitamin B12 is essential for nerve function, red blood cells, and DNA — your body can't make it on its own, so you need it from food or supplements. The product also contains inactive ingredients (water, xylitol, flavoring, citric acid, potassium sorbate, and green tea extract) that support the formula.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Chromium is likely effective for treating chromium deficiency and possibly effective for diabetes. The evidence suggests it may help with blood sugar control in people with poorly managed type 2 diabetes, though results vary.
For prediabetes, the data we hold rates it possibly ineffective. Vitamin B12 is effective for treating B12 deficiency and for Imerslund-Grasbeck disease, a rare absorption disorder, and it's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
It's rated possibly effective for canker sores and nerve pain after shingles (postherpetic neuralgia).
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chromium is generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses, though high or long-term doses carry potential risks. Common side effects include stomach upset, headaches, insomnia, and mood changes.
Rare serious effects include kidney or liver damage and a blood disorder called thrombocytopenia. Skin rashes and contact dermatitis have been reported, especially in people with a chromium allergy.
Vitamin B12 is very safe — your body excretes excess in the urine, so there's no established upper limit. Allergic reactions like rash or hives are rare.
During pregnancy, chromium from a balanced diet or prenatal vitamin is considered safe, but extra supplement doses should be avoided unless your doctor recommends them; B12 is needed during pregnancy and considered safe at normal recommended amounts. During breastfeeding, both chromium (in limited amounts) and B12 are considered safe at recommended amounts.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start, check with us or your pharmacist if you take antidiabetes drugs, insulin, or levothyroxine (thyroid medication). Chromium may lower blood sugar or reduce thyroid hormone absorption.
If you're on metformin, B12 supplementation could actually help offset metformin's effect on B12 levels, but coordinate the timing with your provider.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help if you're deficient in B12 or chromium, but it's not for everyone. If you take diabetes medications, thyroid hormone, or metformin, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting — chromium can affect how these work.
B12 is generally very safe; chromium is the ingredient to watch.

B12 Boost Vitamin B12 Daily Oral Spray by BetterYou Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
BetterYou B12 Boost contains two active ingredients, and the chromium in it does interact with several medication types.
The most serious concern is with antidiabetes drugs and insulin — chromium may boost insulin sensitivity and lower blood sugar, which could push your glucose too low if you're already taking medication for diabetes. You'll want to check this one before starting, especially if you take insulin or pills for blood sugar control.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chromium also interacts with levothyroxine (thyroid hormone replacement) at a Moderate level — it may bind the drug in your gut and reduce how much your body absorbs, potentially lowering your thyroid hormone levels. If you take Synthroid or another thyroid medication, you'd need to space out the doses.
Minor interactions exist with NSAIDs and aspirin, which may increase how much chromium your body retains.
Vitamin B12 in this product has one documented interaction: metformin, a common diabetes medication, can lower B12 levels over time, so long-term metformin users might benefit from B12 supplementation — though you'd want to coordinate timing with your doctor. Altogether, these interactions span 177 individual medications.

For each ingredient in B12 Boost Vitamin B12 Daily Oral Spray with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
Vitamin B12
Metformin (Glucophage)
Metformin, a common medication used to manage type 2 diabetes, has been associated with lower vitamin B12 levels in some individuals. Prolonged use of metformin can interfere with the absorption of B12 in the digestive system, potentially leading to a deficiency in this essential vitamin.
