HelloPharmacist Scorecard of BCAA 5000 Watermelon by MET-Rx
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
BCAA 5000 Watermelon is a powder with 4 active ingredients. Three of them are branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) — L-leucine, L-isoleucine, and L-valine — which are amino acids your body uses to build and repair muscle, especially during and after exercise.
The fourth active ingredient is vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), a B-vitamin your body needs for nerve function, immune health, and how you process proteins and carbohydrates. The product also contains inactive ingredients — natural flavors, citric acid, sweeteners (acesulfame potassium and sucralose), silica, and food colorants — that make it taste and mix well.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
Vitamin B6 has strong evidence for treating sideroblastic anemia (a type of blood disorder) and vitamin B6 deficiency itself. It's likely effective for lowering homocysteine (a substance linked to heart health), and possibly effective for pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting — though you should only use it for that under your doctor's guidance.
We don't have effectiveness data on file for the branched-chain amino acids in this product as ingredients, so we can't tell you what evidence exists for their use in a supplement like this one.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vitamin B6 is generally well tolerated at doses under 100 mg daily. The most common mild side effects are stomach pain, headache, heartburn, nausea, loss of appetite, and drowsiness.
At high doses over time — especially above 1,000 mg daily or total lifetime intakes over 1,000 grams — vitamin B6 can damage nerves (sensory neuropathy), causing tingling or numbness. Although it's been used at recommended levels for morning sickness, do so only under a doctor's supervision.
Normal dietary amounts and standard supplement doses are considered safe, but avoid high doses unless a clinician advises it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking MET-Rx BCAA 5000, double-check with your pharmacist if you use blood pressure medications — vitamin B6 may lower your blood pressure further (Moderate). Also check if you're on seizure drugs like phenytoin or phenobarbital, the heart rhythm drug amiodarone, or levodopa for Parkinson's disease (all Moderate or Minor interactions).
The search tool on this page can verify your specific medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is a BCAA supplement with added vitamin B6. It's worth considering if you're looking to support muscle recovery, but if you take blood pressure medications, seizure drugs, amiodarone, or levodopa, check with your pharmacist first — vitamin B6 can interact with several of these.
Stick to the recommended dose and avoid taking extra vitamin B6 on top of this product.

BCAA 5000 Watermelon by MET-Rx Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
MET-Rx BCAA 5000 Watermelon contains vitamin B6, which has documented interactions with several medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood pressure drugs (antihypertensives): vitamin B6 may add to their effect and lower your blood pressure further, a Moderate-severity interaction. High doses of vitamin B6 can also reduce how well seizure medications like phenytoin (Dilantin) and phenobarbital (Luminal) work in your body, also Moderate severity.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Vitamin B6 may increase sensitivity to sun damage from the heart rhythm drug amiodarone (Cordarone), a Moderate-severity effect. If you take levodopa alone (without carbidopa) for Parkinson's disease, vitamin B6 can speed up how your body breaks it down and reduce its effect — though this doesn't happen if you're on the combination drug Sinemet, which includes carbidopa (Minor severity).
We could not check the other three active ingredients — the branched-chain amino acids L-leucine, L-isoleucine, and L-valine — because interaction data isn't on file for them. Altogether, these interactions span 208 individual medications.

For each ingredient in BCAA 5000 Watermelon with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Vitamin B6
Amiodarone (Cordarone)
Theoretically, vitamin B6 might increase the photosensitivity caused by amiodarone.
Despite initial case reports suggesting that pyridoxine may have a protective effect against amiodarone-induced photosensitivity, preliminary clinical research suggests that pyridoxine may actually exacerbate this adverse effect.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, vitamin B6 may have additive effects when used with antihypertensive drugs.
Research in hypertensive rats shows that vitamin B6 can decrease systolic blood pressure. Similarly, clinical research in patients with hypertension shows that taking high doses of vitamin B6 may reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure, possibly by reducing plasma levels of epinephrine and norepinephrine.
Phenobarbital (Luminal)
High doses of vitamin B6 may reduce the levels and clinical effects of phenobarbital.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that vitamin B6 200 mg daily can reduce plasma levels of phenobarbital, possibly by increasing metabolism. It is not known whether lower doses have any effect. Advise people taking phenobarbital to avoid high doses of vitamin B6.
Phenytoin (Dilantin)
High doses of vitamin B6 may reduce the levels and clinical effects of phenytoin.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that vitamin B6 200 mg daily can reduce plasma levels of phenytoin, possibly by increasing metabolism. It is not known whether lower doses have any effect. Advise people taking phenytoin to avoid high doses of vitamin B6.
Levodopa
Vitamin B6 may increase the metabolism of levodopa when taken alone, but not when taken in conjunction with carbidopa.
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) enhances the metabolism of levodopa, reducing its clinical effects. However, this interaction does not occur when carbidopa is used concurrently with levodopa (Sinemet). Therefore, it is not likely to be a problem in most people.
