Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: beta-glucan, a type of fiber derived from yeast and mushrooms. It's included in a gelatin capsule.

Beta-glucans are a soluble fiber that your body processes through the digestive system. The capsule itself is an inactive ingredient—just the container.

Does it work?

Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Beta-glucans's overall clinical evidence instead.

Strong

Strong clinical evidence supports Beta-glucans for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Coronary heart disease (CHD) — rated "Likely Effective" (Natural Medicines).
  • On file: Dyslipidemia — rated "Likely Effective" (Natural Medicines).

Beta-glucan is rated Likely Effective for two uses: lowering cholesterol levels (dyslipidemia) and supporting heart health in people with coronary heart disease. The evidence here is solid enough that we can say it probably helps with those goals.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Beta-glucans from food are generally well tolerated. When you take a concentrated supplement instead of getting beta-glucans from food sources, though, safety data is thinner, so caution is reasonable.

In trials, oral beta-glucans have been well tolerated overall. One child in a high-dose study did develop temporary liver enzyme elevations, and topical beta-glucan cream caused mild, self-limiting skin reactions in some users.

During breastfeeding, there's little research on supplement doses, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it.

Beta-Glucan by Earthborn Elements: Common Questions

Does Beta-Glucan by Earthborn Elements interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Beta-Glucan has a known interaction with 293 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Beta-Glucan contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will beta-glucan lower my blood pressure too much if I'm already on a blood pressure medication?
Possibly. Beta-glucans can lower blood pressure on their own in some people, so taking them with blood pressure drugs raises the risk of your pressure dropping too low. This is why you need to check your specific medications with the checker and talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting it.
Can I take this if I've had an organ transplant?
Not without talking to your transplant team first. After a transplant, you take immunosuppressants to prevent rejection. Beta-glucans stimulate immunity, which could theoretically interfere with that protection. Your doctor needs to weigh the risks and benefits for your situation.
Does beta-glucan actually help with cholesterol and heart health?
Yes—it's rated Likely Effective for both lowering cholesterol and supporting heart health in people with coronary heart disease. The evidence is solid enough that it's a reasonable option if you're looking for dietary support.
Are there any common side effects I should expect?
Beta-glucans are well tolerated by most people. In trials, no major side effects showed up. If you use a topical cream, mild skin reactions have been reported in some cases, but they went away on their own.
Is it safe to take this while breastfeeding?
There isn't enough research on supplement doses during breastfeeding to say either way. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist—they can give you personalized advice based on your situation.
What exactly is beta-glucan?
It's a type of soluble fiber found naturally in yeast and mushrooms. Your digestive system breaks it down, and the evidence suggests it helps your body manage cholesterol and support heart health.
