What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Broad Spectrum Hemp+ Stress against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product has two active ingredients. Ashwagandha (Sensoril brand) root and leaf extract is an adaptogenic herb traditionally used to ease stress and worry.
The second active ingredient is Broad Spectrum Phytocannabinoids — plant compounds from hemp — though we don't have detailed breakdown of what those are in this formulation. The capsules also contain several inactive ingredients (cellulose, dextrin, silica, magnesium stearate, and a plant-derived capsule shell) that help hold and deliver the active compounds.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Ashwagandha in this product is rated possibly effective for insomnia, anxiety, stress, and generalized anxiety disorder based on available evidence. That means the evidence suggests it may help, but more research is needed to be certain.
For bipolar disorder, the evidence isn't established enough to rate it either way. We don't have effectiveness data on file for the broad spectrum phytocannabinoids in this product.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Ashwagandha is generally well tolerated in healthy adults over the short term, though long-term safety data are limited and quality varies across products. The most common side effects — when they occur — are mild gastrointestinal issues like diarrhea, nausea, or stomach upset, though these don't happen often at typical doses.
Rare but serious concerns include acute liver problems and, in isolated case reports, intracranial hemorrhage and blood vessel changes. During pregnancy, ashwagandha is considered likely unsafe due to traditional concerns about miscarriage risk, so it should be avoided.
There isn't enough safety information for breastfeeding, so it's best to skip it while nursing. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using this product if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your pharmacist if you use liver-stress medications (hepatotoxic drugs), blood pressure medications (antihypertensives), diabetes drugs, benzodiazepines or other sedatives, thyroid hormone replacements, or certain enzyme substrates (CYP1A2 substrates). These are Moderate or Minor interactions, but they matter for your safety.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Ashwagandha may help with stress, anxiety, and sleep if the evidence pans out for you, but it's not a slam dunk. The real thing to do before taking this is check your medications — especially blood pressure drugs, diabetes medications, benzodiazepines, and anything that affects your liver.
If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, this product isn't for you. Chat with your pharmacist about whether it fits your situation.

Broad Spectrum Hemp+ Stress by Nature's Way Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Broad Spectrum Hemp+ Stress by Nature's Way contains ashwagandha, which has documented interactions with multiple medication types.
The most serious concern is with drugs that affect the liver (hepatotoxic drugs) — ashwagandha has been linked to cases of acute hepatitis, liver failure, and in rare cases liver transplantation or death, so you'll want to flag this with your pharmacist if you take any medications known to stress the liver.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Ashwagandha also interacts with sedating drugs (CNS depressants), including benzodiazepines like diazepam and clonazepam — it may increase drowsiness and sedation. Blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) may have stronger effects, raising the risk of low blood pressure (hypotension).
If you take diabetes medications, ashwagandha might lower your blood sugar further, increasing hypoglycemia risk. Thyroid hormone replacements may also be affected; ashwagandha can boost thyroid hormone levels, which could cause too-high thyroid hormone effects or side effects.
Additionally, ashwagandha might decrease how well certain drugs (CYP1A2 substrates) work by speeding up how your liver processes them.
We couldn't check the product's broad spectrum phytocannabinoids or hemp oil extract for interactions — we hold no data for those ingredients. Altogether, these interactions span 1,373 individual medications.

Ashwagandha (Sensoril brand) root and leaf extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
There is preliminary clinical evidence suggesting that ashwagandha might lower blood glucose levels. Theoretically, ashwagandha might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that ashwagandha might lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Theoretically, ashwagandha might have additive effects when used with antihypertensive drugs and increase the risk of hypotension.
Benzodiazepines
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha might increase the sedative effects of benzodiazepines.
There is preliminary evidence that ashwagandha might have an additive effect with diazepam (Valium) and clonazepam (Klonopin). This may also occur with other benzodiazepines.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha might increase the sedative effects of CNS depressants.
Ashwagandha seems to have sedative effects. Theoretically, this may potentiate the effects of barbiturates, other sedatives, and anxiolytics.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha with hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver damage.
Ashwagandha has been linked to cases of acute hepatitis, liver failure, hepatic encephalopathy, autoimmune hepatitis, the need for liver transplantation, and death due to liver failure.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha might decrease the effects of immunosuppressants.
Ashwagandha has demonstrated immunostimulant effects in humans. Animal research has shown that ashwagandha can attenuate the immunosuppression caused by cyclophosphamide.
Thyroid Hormone
Ashwagandha might increase the effects and adverse effects of thyroid hormone.
Concomitant use of ashwagandha with thyroid hormones may cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects. Preliminary clinical research and animal studies suggest that ashwagandha boosts thyroid hormone synthesis and secretion. In one clinical study, ashwagandha increased triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) levels by 41.5% and 19.6%, respectively, and reduced serum TSH levels by 17.4% from baseline in adults with subclinical hypothyroidism.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, ashwagandha might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that ashwagandha extract induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, ashwagandha might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that ashwagandha extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes.
Serotonergic Drugs
Some animal studies have reported that ashwagandha can enhance serotonergic transmission by altering certain serotonin (5-HT) receptors. However, there is no evidence to suggest that ashwagandha increases the risk of serotonin-related effects, and there have been no published case reports of serotonin syndrome when combined with other serotonergic drugs. Nevertheless, due to the lack of extensive studies on the matter and the fact that ashwagandha appears to affect serotonergic pathways, it would be prudent to exercise caution when combining it with drugs that affect serotonin. Hemp Oil extract
Estrogens
Theoretically, hemp might interfere with hormone therapy due to its estrogenic effects.
In an ovariectomized animal model, a diet containing hemp seed 1%, 2%, or 10% resulted in normalized plasma levels of 17-beta-estradiol. The mechanism of action for this effect is unclear.
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Theoretically, consuming hemp seed protein isolate with ACE inhibitors might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Hemp seed protein hydrolysate has shown ACE inhibitor-like effects in a hypertensive animal model. However, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans. Until more is known, monitor blood pressure and potassium levels.
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, hemp seed might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In animal research, hemp seed at 5% of the diet inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro. However, in human research, taking hemp seed oil 2 grams daily for 12 weeks does not inhibit the aggregation of platelets in vitro.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP3A4 enzymes.
