What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: chromium, in the form of chromium picolinate at 200 micrograms per capsule. Chromium is an essential mineral that plays a role in blood sugar regulation and insulin function.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients—hypoallergenic plant fiber, cellulose, and water—that serve as fillers and the capsule material itself.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for chromium is mixed. It's rated Likely Effective for chromium deficiency, which makes sense because the ingredient replaces what's missing.
For type 2 diabetes, chromium is rated Possibly Effective—some research suggests it may help lower blood glucose, especially in people whose diabetes isn't well controlled yet. However, for prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance), schizophrenia, and high blood pressure, the evidence is rated Possibly Ineffective, meaning the data don't support a clear benefit.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
At typical supplement doses, chromium is generally well tolerated. The most common side effects are mild—gastrointestinal upset, headaches, insomnia, irritability, and mood changes.
Skin reactions like rashes or hives have been reported, particularly in people with a contact allergy to chromium. Rare serious effects including kidney or liver damage and low platelet counts have been documented, mostly at much higher doses (1200–2400 mcg daily) taken long-term.
The safety data notes that small amounts from food or prenatal vitamins are generally fine, but extra supplement doses should only be taken if your doctor recommends them.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this, check with your pharmacist if you're on insulin or antidiabetes drugs (like metformin, sulfonylureas, or others)—chromium may lower your blood sugar further and raise the risk of hypoglycemia. Levothyroxine (thyroid hormone) users should know that chromium can reduce how much of it your body absorbs; spacing the doses apart may help, but confirm with your pharmacist first.
NSAIDs and aspirin may increase chromium absorption, though the clinical impact isn't clear—still worth mentioning when you check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Chromium picolinate is a straightforward single-ingredient supplement for supporting blood sugar metabolism, though the evidence is strongest for replacing actual deficiency. If you take insulin, diabetes medication, thyroid hormone, or regular NSAIDs or aspirin, talk with your pharmacist before starting—the interactions are moderate and manageable but worth planning around.

Chromium (Picolinate) 200 mcg by Pure Encapsulations Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Chromium Picolinate 200 mcg by Pure Encapsulations does interact with several medication types, and the most serious concern is with insulin and antidiabetes drugs.
Because chromium may increase insulin sensitivity and lower blood sugar, combining it with these medications could raise your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). If you take insulin or diabetes pills, you'll want to talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting this product.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chromium may also interfere with levothyroxine (the thyroid hormone Synthroid and generics). Research shows that taking chromium picolinate can reduce how much levothyroxine your body absorbs—one study found a 17% drop in blood levels.
If you're on thyroid medication, spacing them apart may help, but you should check with your pharmacist first. Additionally, NSAIDs like ibuprofen and naproxen, as well as aspirin, may increase how much chromium your body absorbs and retains, though the clinical significance of this is unclear.
Altogether, these interactions span 178 individual medications. Use the search tool on this page to check your exact prescriptions before you start.

Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
