Cordyceps Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Cordyceps against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Cordyceps by HealthForce SuperFoods
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product is a single-ingredient powder: cordyceps fruiting body extract, which includes beta-glucans. The cordyceps is listed as a blend, so the full breakdown of what's in it isn't detailed in our data.
There are no inactive ingredients (fillers, binders, or capsule materials) listed for this product.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Beta-glucans, one of the active compounds in this product, are rated Likely Effective for two cardiovascular concerns: reducing abnormal cholesterol levels (dyslipidemia) and supporting coronary heart disease. We don't hold effectiveness data on cordyceps fruiting body extract itself.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Beta-glucans from food sources are generally well tolerated. However, concentrated supplements lack solid safety data, so caution is warranted if you're using this powder regularly.
In clinical trials, orally taken beta-glucans were generally well tolerated, though one child in a high-dose trial developed temporary liver enzyme elevations within five days of starting. During breastfeeding, there's little research on supplement doses of beta-glucans, so caution is advised — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this is right for you.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this powder, double-check if you're on blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) or immune-suppressing drugs (immunosuppressants). Both may have Moderate-severity interactions with the beta-glucans in this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This powder is most useful if you're interested in cardiovascular support and aren't on blood pressure or immune-suppressing medications. If you take either of those drug types, check with your pharmacist first.
Because cordyceps extract is listed as a blend, we can't fully assess all potential interactions — having your pharmacist review your specific medications is smart.

Formula
Cordyceps (Cordyceps militaris) have been used for over a thousand years in China and Tibet. They were once considered so valuable and rare that only the emperor of China could afford to use them. Today, thanks to innovative cultivation techniques, Cordyceps militaris are readily available. These mushrooms can be humanely cultivated (vegan substrate) and are much more affordable. Highly beneficial due to their high levels of beta-glucans (25%+) which help to support overall vitality. Cordyceps have been known to increase endurance, strength, and energy. Cordyceps have a savory umami, deep earthy-nutty flavor. Our pure, wood-grown cordyceps mushroom extract is made by hot water extraction using the fruiting body of the fungi. The powder can be added to smoothies, fresh juices, or teas.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
HealthForce SuperFoods Cordyceps Powder contains cordyceps fruiting body extract, which is a blend ingredient, plus beta-glucans — a compound that has documented interactions with two medication categories.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The main concern is blood pressure medications (antihypertensives). Beta-glucans may lower your blood pressure, so combining them with drugs that already do that could push your pressure too low (Moderate severity).
Some people taking beta-glucans have seen their systolic and diastolic readings drop.
Beta-glucans also may interfere with immunosuppressant drugs (Moderate severity) — medications that deliberately weaken your immune system for conditions like autoimmune disease or after a transplant. Research suggests beta-glucans can stimulate immune activity, which could work against what those drugs are trying to do.
We couldn't fully check cordyceps fruiting body extract itself because it's listed as a blend container — we'd need to know its specific component ingredients to assess interactions there. Altogether, these interactions span 287 individual medications.
Before you start this powder, run your exact prescriptions through the checker on this page.

For each ingredient in Cordyceps with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Cordyceps fruiting body extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, cordyceps may increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
In vitro and animal research suggests that cordyceps extract inhibits platelet aggregation and function. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that cordyceps stimulates the immune system. However, limited clinical research suggests that taking cordyceps may lower the necessary therapeutic dose of the immunosuppressant cyclosporine, which suggests that cordyceps may have an immunosuppressive effect.
Testosterone
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps and testosterone might have additive effects.
Animal research suggests that cordyceps can increase testosterone levels. The clinical significance of this finding is unclear.
