Damiana Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Damiana against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product is a liquid extract containing one active ingredient: ethically wild harvested damiana. The liquid is made with grain alcohol and deionized water as inactive ingredients.
The damiana leaf has been used traditionally for several purposes, though reliable evidence for many of those uses remains limited.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The evidence we hold doesn't establish that damiana works for sexual dysfunction, asthma, headache, cognitive function, constipation, or depression — all six uses carry insufficient evidence ratings. That doesn't mean damiana can't help, just that we don't have solid human trial data to confirm it does.
If you're considering it for one of these reasons, talk it over with your pharmacist to weigh what research does exist outside this database.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Damiana is likely well tolerated in small food or tea amounts for most adults, but human safety data overall are limited. The main safety concern comes from a case where a very high dose — 200 grams of damiana extract — caused tetanus-like convulsions and severe symptoms.
Typical doses would be much smaller, but this highlights that more is not always better with herbal extracts. Because safety data in pregnancy and breastfeeding are insufficient, the evidence advises against use during either period.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antidiabetes drugs (insulin, metformin, or other blood sugar medications), you must check your exact medications with the search tool on this page before adding damiana — there's a Moderate risk that it could lower your blood sugar too much.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Damiana is a traditional herbal extract with limited human safety and effectiveness data. If you take any diabetes medications, you'll need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it, since there's a Moderate risk of blood sugar dropping too low.
Otherwise, chat with your pharmacist about what you're hoping to use it for and whether the current evidence supports that use.

Damiana by L.A. Naturals Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Damiana by L.A.
Naturals interacts with antidiabetes drugs through its damiana content. The main concern is a Moderate risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) — animal research shows damiana can lower blood glucose, so combining it with diabetes medications that already do this could push your levels too far down.
